New York first day....

The Place

I just assumed it would be just another big city like London but it is so incredibly different.  This city is amazing, edgy and with so much to see.

Like my friend said it's like being in one continuous movie set.  All my visual knowledge of New York was from Hollywood movies yesterday so far, I have been on the set of The Warriors, The Matrix, Cloverfield and When Harry Met Sally to name a few....it's not hard to look like a tourist when your singing "Warriors come out to playay" in the subway station.

The People

New Yorkers, different from Londoners in my opinion in one crucial way that I have noticed so far.  Londoners will do anything to avoid eye contact and personal interaction on public transport.  They read books, papers and listen to ipods, anything to create their personal space in an environment where it's so very compromised.  It would take a lot of courage and a thick skin to strike up a conversation with a Londoner in that kind of space.

New Yorkers are far more direct, they will look you in the eye and for someone whose been living in London for over 10 years this has been disarming for me.  If you bump into them they won't just sigh and give you a tight lipped smile they will yell at you.

....this doesn't mean I don't love you Londoners it's just different is all :)
KATZ DELI made famous not only be their fabulous food but also from this well known scene: Orgasm
